FLAG’s development strategy, described in the Local Development Plan, is focused on the following points:
- Helping the fishing areas in our jurisdiction to become more competitive
- Modernising and guiding economic activities
- Promoting fishing tourism.
The Warm Welcome project
The portal www.etnariviera.com, created as a part of the Warm Welcome project, aims to promote experience-based tourism in Eastern Sicily with the goal of giving more visibility to operators and increasing the flow of tourists to the area of the Eastern Etna Riviera.
The territory involved in the project extends over an area of 243.42 km2, with over 158 km of coastline, including 3 provinces (Messina, Catania and Syracuse) and 11 municipalities: Aci Castello, Acireale, Augusta, Catania, Forza d’Agro, Fiumefreddo di Sicilia, Giardini Naxos, Letojanni, Mascali, Riposto, Sant’Alessio Siculo.
This is an area with a very high potential for development, thanks to the presence of significant tourist attractions that need to be promoted in a sustainable way, focusing on forms of experience-based tourism that can create a connection between the coastal areas and the inland, between natural and environmental heritage and local historical identities, between maritime culture and traditions and fishing. Therefore, the strategy fully embraces the principle of sustainable development, and aims to attract a flow of tourists that are sensitive to environmental issues.
